Ann Wingeleth took home the victory in the long jump as the Utah track and field team closed out its first outdoor competition on Saturday at the Baldy Castillo Invitational.

"Our kids competed very hard today and finished off a great meet to open the outdoor season. We had mixed results today and certainly wish we had done the race plans better but we will improve as the season moves forward," head coach

In her first collegiate outdoor long jump event, Wingeleth recorded a mark of 19 feet, 4.25 inches. This mark ranked seventh all-time in Utah outdoor history.

Freshman
Holly Stallman also competed in the long jump. Stallman finished in 15
th place with a mark of 17 feet, .5 inches.

Wingeleth also led Utah in the high jump when she posted a mark of 5 feet, 3 inches. Sophomore
Eliza Hansen placed 12
th after clearing a mark of 5 feet, 1 inch. Sophomore
Lauren McCluskey and freshman
Piper Wehrli tied for 13
th with a mark of 4 feet, 11 inches. Freshman
Suzannah Stark rounded out the high jump, clearing a mark of 4 feet, 11 inches.

In the 400 meter-dash, senior
Alissa Atisme competed unattached and placed third overall with a time of 55.28 seconds. Senior
Rhianna Williams and junior
Mesa Weidle placed 16
th and 17
th, respectively. Williams finished with a time of 59.55 seconds, while Weidle ran a time of 59.98 seconds.

Freshman
Sarah Newton led the way for Utah in the 800-meter run. Newton finished in 15
th place with a time of 2:16.09. Junior
Dakota Grossman ran a time of 2:17.82 to earn an 18
th place finish. Freshman
Brooke Martin placed 28
th in a time of 2:19.24, while freshman
Melissa Taggart rounded out the Utes in the 800, finishing in 25
th in a time of 2:19.47.

Utah had a group of athletes compete in the 100-meter hurdles and Wehrli led the way, finishing in 24
th place with a time 16.69 seconds. Junior
Madison Lanford finished in a time of 16.78 seconds to earn 25
th place, while McCluskey placed 27
th with a time of 17.14 seconds.

In the 100-meter dash, Stallman finished in 31
st place with a time of 12.62 seconds. Junior
Raynee Helm finished in a time of 12.91 to earn 32
nd place.

Utah will be back in action next Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 23-25. Utah will head to Riverside, Calif, to compete at the UC Riverside Invitational.

"We have a lot of work to do and will look to keep progressing. We were right where we thought we would be today and for our first outdoor meet I thought we did well. Hopefully by our home meet we will be right where we would like to be," Kepler said.
