Utes Come Home With A Victory Over Broncos

BOISE, Idaho – The University of Utah men's tennis team made a road trip up to Boise State this weekend, as the Utes defeated the Broncos 4-1. With this win, the Utes are now 8-1 in spring play.
The Utes fell behind early, losing the doubles point to the Broncos. Santiago Sierra and Slava Shainyan were the only doubles team to win for the Utes, edging out Morgan Stone and Greg Wischer with a score of 6-4.
"We came out pretty flat in doubles today, but we took great care of business in singles. I'm proud of the guys for beating BYU and Boise State on the road in a time span of four days." Added head coach Roeland Brateanu on the team's play.
In singles action, Slava Shainyan was dominant at the No. 5 position, defeating Morgan Stone 6-1, 6-0. Then at the No. 3 spot, Joe Woolley quickly defeated Pedro Platzeck with a final score of 6-1, 6-3. David Micevski also cruised to a victory at the No. 1 position, defeating Kyle Butters with a score of 6-1, 6-2. Dan Little then finished things off for the day for the Utes, defeating Brian Tran with a final score of 7-6(4), 6-1.
The Utes will be back in action this weekend as the University of Nebraska comes into town on Friday, with the match against the Cornhuskers scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. MST. Then on Sunday, the Utes will be matched up with the University of New Mexico at 1:30 p.m., finishing off the weekend with a match against the University of Montana at 6:00 p.m.
