SALT LAKE CITY- Utah swimming and diving won big today over rival BYU. The men came out on top with a score of 189-109 and the women were victorious, 181-112.
"I thought it was great (today)," said Utah head coach
Joe Dykstra. "We really competed hard. It was as close to full strength as we have been all year. Personnel wise, that shows up in the kind of dominating performance we had. We raced really well."
On Senior Day, it was freshman
Matteo Sogne who got things started for the Utes. He took first in the 1,000 free touching in at 9:35.18.
Ethan Dillard (9:46.83) and
Brody Lewis (9:49.14) followed up.
Sogne would later take first in the 500 free (4:38.95). Dillard claimed the top spot in the 200 IM, as he touched in at 1:51.59.
Daniel McArthur and
Jack Burton put up multiple wins today. McArthur took first in the 100 back (49.25) as well as the 200 back (1:49.48). Burton took first in the 100 breast (56.88) and in the 200 breast (2:06.01).
Rounding out the individual wins for the Utes was
Colten Montgomery in the 100 fly. He came away with a time of 49.17.
A team of of Paul Unger, Burton, Montgomery and
McKay King took first in the 200 medley relay. They touched in at 1:29.49.
In diving,
Josiah Purss would take first on the one-meter and the three-meter event. In the one-meter, he tallied a total score of 344.78 while accumulating a score of 409.80 in the three meter
On the women's side, proceedings started well with the team of
Shayla Archer,
Genevieve Robertson,
Kristine Pataray and
Gillian St. John taking first in the 200 medley relay. They touched in at 1:43.68.
Utah also captured first place in the 400 free relay as
Dorien Butter,
Sarah Lott,
Darby Wayner and St. John won with a time of 3:30.50.
Individually, Butter took first in both the 200 free (1:54.12) and the 100 free (52.11).
Mallori Allen claimed the top spot in the 100 back, touching in at 58.11 and also took first in the 200 back (2:05.36).
Robertson won both breast-stroke events. In the 100 breast, she had a time of 1:04.74 and in the 200 breast, she touched in at 2:18.69.
In the 200 fly,
Jordan Anderson was first coming away with a time of 2:06.32. Other first place- finishes by the Utes were put up by Pataray in the 50 free (23.95), Kat Wickman in the 500 free (5:09.30) and
Julienne Tadena in the 200 IM (2:07.56).
On the boards,
Amanda Casillas was first in the one-meter event tallying a total score of 280.73.
Lauren Hall followed in second (245.48). Casillas also took first in the three-meter event (290.70).
The next event for the Utes will see the divers return to the pool Friday. They travel to Colorado Springs to compete in the Air Force Invitational.
