LAWRENCE, Kansas - Ali Eisenbeiss finished 18th in the 800 while Chrissy Glasmann was 40th in the javelin as the Utah track and field team got underway at the NCAA West Preliminary Championship on Friday.
Eisenbeiss, who entered the meet seeded 37th, placed third in her heat and 19th overall with a time of 2:08.12.
"She was out quickly with the leaders and the pace backed off a bit too much in the second 200," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "Ali moved to second on the backstretch and held that position until the final few steps before finishing third. I thought she handled the schedule change due to the weather as you would expect a fifth-year senior would. She put herself in the race and gave herself a chance to advance.
"She's had a terrific career and is among our best 800-meter runners of all time," Kepler continued. "She's a Drake Relays champion and is part of three school-record relay teams. She finished sixth the Pac-12 meet as a junior. I'd say that's a heck of a career for a gal who never ran the 800 in high school. We will greatly miss her work ethic and competitive nature."
Glasmann placed 40th in the javelin with a throw of 143'2" (43.65m).
Andrea Chavez and Sarah Feeny compete on Saturday, May 28, in the 1,500 at 11:00 a.m. CT.
