2016 Utah Spring Classic Heat Sheets and Final Schedule ![]()
SALT LAKE CITY- The University of Utah track and field team will host its fifth annual Utah Spring Classic on Friday April 8. Events begin at 2:00 p.m. with the javelin and men's pole vault at the McCarthey Track. The track events begin at 4:45 p.m. with the women's 3,000 meters.
"We are super excited for our home meet," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "The weather, knock on wood, is supposed to be great. The format of the meet is sort of irregular, in the fact that we won't have every event because we split the events between our place and Weber State. That allows people to double up in events a little bit easier. It will also kind of mimic the conference meet. Admission is free and I hope to see everyone there."
Admission is free to all fans. Fans in attendance will receive a free water bottle (while supplies last). Kids 12 and under will be able to compete in the 'Fastest Kids Race' 100-meter dash, scheduled for 8:05 p.m. In addition, seniors Allison Aafedt, Giselle Slotboom, Katelyn Stringfellow, Jocelyn Todd, Andrea Chavez, Ali Eisenbeiss, Susannah Hurst Spencer, and Nikki Rietz will be honored in a senior day presentation as they compete in their final home competition for Utah.
The Utes will also travel to Ogden, Utah on Saturday to compete at the Wildcat Outdoor Open. Hosted by Weber State University, the meet is schedule to begin at 9:30 a.m. with the men's discus at Stewart Stadium.
Getting the action underway for the Utes on Friday will be true freshman Christine Glasmann in the javelin. At the Stanford Invitational, Glasmann captured tenth with a season-best throw measuring 133 feet, 11 inches.
The senior tandem of Andrea Chavez and Ali Eisenbeiss will headline the distance group. Earlier this season, Chavez recorded an 800-meter time of 2:07.48 at the Baldy Castillo Invitational. This time ranks her in the top 20 in the nation. Eisenbeiss currently ranks 21st in the same event, with a season-best time of 2:07.58 at the Aztec Invitational.
Junior Alissa Atisme is set to lead the sprints group. Atisme holds school records in the outdoor 100 (11.78) and 200 (24.06).
The Utah Spring Classic has traditionally played host to a large scale of competition. In previous seasons, the meet has attracted all of the universities and colleges in the area as well as top competition from the western region and top-individuals competing independently.
