Utah Track and Field Travels to California this Weekend

SALT LAKE CITY- The University of Utah track and field team prepares for a tough test as they head to California this weekend. The Utes are scheduled to compete at three meets including the Mt. SAC Relays, Cal State LA Twilight and Brian Clay Invitational from Thursday, April 14 to Saturday, April 16.
"We are trying to take advantage of several meets this weekend," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "We want to try to get some of our kids multiple races. It will also be our first look at the 10,000-meter race for three of our gals. We have a lot to look forward to. The weather looks great out there again and we will hopefully continue to see development from our gals as we start to close in on the end of the regular season."
Coming off an impressive performance at the Utah Spring Classic, senior Andrea Chavez will lead the way for the Utes. Chavez is currently ranked 34th in the NCAA in the 800 after posting a time of 2:07.48 at the Baldy Castillo Invitational. Accompanying Chavez in the middle distance events will be fellow senior Ali Eisenbeiss, who ranks 37th in the NCAA in the same event.
After setting a facility record in the 3,000-meter run at the Utah Spring Classic, sophomore Hannah McInturff will again compete this weekend. Sarah Feeny will help to bolster the distance group, and currently ranks 59th in the nation in the 1,500 with a season-best time of 4:23.28 at the Stanford Invitational.
Junior Alissa Atisme is set to lead the sprinting core. Atisme holds school records in the outdoor 100 (11.78) and 200 (24.06).
Action at the Mt. SAC Relays is set to begin on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. PST with the collegiate 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif.
Athletes set to participate at the Cal State LA Twilight will compete on Friday and Saturday at the Jesse Owens Track and North Field in Los Angeles, Calif.
The rest of the team will compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday at the Cougar Athletic Stadium on Azusa Pacific's East Campus in Azusa, Calif.
