STANFORD, Calif. - The Utah women's tennis team came up short in a 7-0 decision to Stanford on Saturday at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
"It was a tough weekend against great competition. Stanford with Zhao in the line up is a national title contender, I'm very proud of Margo and Brianna in doubles." said head coach Mat Iandolo.
The doubles matches started off with a victory for #47 Krista Hardebeck and Caroline Lampl of Stanford over Ute freshman Taylor Calton and junior Luisa Gerstner Da Rosa, 6-0.
The point was clinched with Kimberly Yee and Carol Zhao defeating senior Sarah Richter and sophomore Alexia Petrovic, 6-2.
In singles play, #118 Hardebeck defeated sophomore Jena Cheng 6-2, 6-1 to give the Cardinal a 2-0 lead.
#23 Taylor Davidson collected a win over freshman Brianna Turley 6-2, 6-0.
To clinch the match for Stanford, Lampl beat Calton 6-3, 6-2.
The matches at No. 3, 1, and 6 completed with losses coming at all positions for Utah. The Utes are currently on a five game losing streak after this loss to the Cardinal.
The Utes return home on Thursday, Mar. 31 to face off with Fresno State at 1:30 p.m. MST for a break from Pac-12 Conference play.
