Utes Place Three on Pac-12 Football All-Academic First Team

SAN FRANCISCO--Led by first-team selections Hunter Dimick, Marcus Williams and Andy Phillips, 20 Utah players were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic football teams, announced today by the conference office.

Dimick, a senior defensive end who leads the Pac-12 in sacks and tackles for loss, has a 3.33 grade point average and is majoring in communication. He is a four-time Pac-12 All-Academic selection—the past two years on the first team. Williams, a junior defensive back with a 3.60 grade point average, is tied for the team lead with four interceptions and ranks third in tackles with 59. The sociology major also earned first-team All-Academic honors last season. Phillips is fourth in the Pac-12 in field goals (17) and field goal percentage (81.0). Working towards his master's in information systems, Phillips has a 3.83 grade point average and is new to the first team after two years as an honorable mention selection.

Dimick was also named to the 2016 All-Pac-12 Conference first team, while both Williams and Phillips were second-team All-Pac-12 selections.

Making the Pac-12 All-Academic second team were senior tight end Ken Hampel (3.45/math and financial planning), senior offensive lineman Nick Nowakowski (3.34/electrical and computer engineering) and senior long snapper Chase Dominguez (3.70/communication).

Earning honorable mention honors were Philip Afia, Tyson Cisrow, Christian Drews, Mackay Dunn, Evan Eggiman, Jordan Fogal, Harrison Handley, Hayes Hicken, Boobie Hobbs, Casey Hughes, Evan Moeai, Darrin Paulo, Sharrieff Shah, Jr. and Alex Whittingham.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average and appear in at least 50-percent of his team's games.
