Utah Golf Finishes 10th at Arizona Intercollegiate

- Final Round Results TUSCON, Ariz. - The Utah men's golf team finished 10th at the Arizona Intercollegiate after shooting a final round 17-over par (301) at Sewailo Golf Club on Saturday. Utah finished the 54-hole tournament at 44-over par (298-297-301=896).
Senior Jose Pelayo carded a second-round score of 5-over par (76) and a final-round score of 2-over par (73) to finish in a tie for 23rd-place. Pelayo finished the event at an 8-over par (72-76-73=221) to lead the Utes.
Along with Pelayo, two other Utah golfers placed among the top-50 with Gentry Hicks shooting a final-round score of 4-over par (75) to finish in a tie for 38th-place at 11-over par (74-75-75=224), and senior Brandon Kida recording a final-round score of 3-over par (74) to finish in a tie for 44th-place to complete the event at 12-over par (77-74-74=225).
Freshman Trent Hill finished in a tie for 57th-place after carding a final-round score of 8-over par and finished the event at 18-over par (80-72-79=231). Senior Jonathon Thomas rounded out Utah's team total, finishing in a tie for 64th-place after carding 12-over par in the final round and finished at 21-over par (75-76-83=234) for the event.
Texas captured the team title with a two-day score of 9-under par (284-282-277=843). Washington followed behind Texas finishing the event in second place shooting 4-under par (277-281-290=848). California (E) finished in third-place, New Mexico (+4) took fourth-place and Washington State (+32) rounded out the top-five teams in the field.
BYU (+34), UTEP (+36), Santa Clara (+39), and Iowa State (+41) finished just ahead of Utah, while New Mexico State (+45), Arizona (+51), Denver (+55), South Dakota State (+59), Southern Illinois (+61), CSU-Fullerton (+61), and Tulsa (+88) followed.
Utah will return to action in two weeks at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Kauai, Hawaii. The three-day event will be held Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, Feb. 17-19.
