SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Three members of the Utah golf team were named to the 2015 Pac-12 All-Academic Team, the conference office announced on Wednesday. Brent Pollock (3.60 GPA, Communications) was named a second team selection, while both Brandon Kida and Jose Pelayo were tabbed honorable mention selections.
"It is always great when our players excel in the classroom, as well as on the golf course," said Utah head coach Randall McCracken. "I am proud of our guys for being committed to their academics and I wish them congratulations for earning such a great honor."
Pollock, a junior out of Eugene, Ore., competed in eight regular-season events and tallied a 76.1 stokes-per-round average this past season. His best finish this season came at the OGIO Utah Invitational, where he came in 48th-place after posting a three-round score of 11-over par, 224 (71-82-71). Pollock placed 70th in the Pac-12 Championships after carding a four-round score of +60 (80-83-93-84=340).
Kida, a junior who hails from Layton, Utah, averaged 73.5 strokes-per-round in 11 regular-season events. He had a pair of top-five finishes on the season, finishing tied for fifth-place at both the Loyola Golf Invitational (-2, 76-70-68=214) and the OGIO UC Santa Barbara Intercollegiate (+1, 72-75-70=217). Kida finished in a tie for 59th-place at the Pac-12 Championships, after carding Utah's second-lowest score with a +20 (76-74-75-75=300).
Pelayo, a junior out of Temecula, Calif., posted a 73.7 strokes-per-round average in nine events during the regular-season. His best finish came at the OGIO UC Santa Barbara Intercollegiate (+3, 75-71-73=219) where he finished in a tie for eighth-place.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and participate in at least half of their team's scheduled regular season events.
