PALO ALTO, Calif. - The University of Utah women's tennis team (3-7, 0-1) took a loss in its' first Pac-12 Conference match up of the season, falling to 10th-ranked Stanford 7-0 at the Taube Family Tennis Center.
The Cardinal took a 1-0 edge early, collecting wins from the first and second singles position to capture the doubles point. Third-ranked Taylor Davidson and Carol Zhao managed an 8-3 victory over No. 31 Tereza Bekerova and Margo Pletcher, while Jena Cheng and Sarah Richter fell to No. 10 Caroline Doyle and Ellen Tsay, 8-3.
Entering singles play, the Utes continued to face tough opposition as four of six Cardinal competitors are ranked in the ITA polls. The Utes fell in succession, as freshman Margo Pletcher was the only Ute to force a third match. Pletcher eventually fell to Lindsey Kostas, 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (4), to give Stanford its third shutout of the season.
The Utes return to the court tomorrow at 1 p.m. MT to face the No. 3 California Golden Bears at the Hellman Tennis Complex in Berkeley, Calif.
