SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah golf team is slated to compete in the Border Olympics, hosted by the University of Houston, on the par-72, 7,125 yard Laredo Country Club Friday and Saturday. Live scoring will be available at golfstat.com.
Format
The 54-hole tournament will be played over two days, 36 holes on Friday and the final 18 holes on Saturday.
The Field
Utah will be competing against 18 other teams, including host #31 Houston, #11 Baylor, #47Sam Houston State, Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Louisiana-Lafayette, McNeese State, New Mexico State, Pacific, Rice, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas State, ULM, UT Arlington, UTEP and UTSA.
Last Time Out
The Utes posted their best finish of the season at the Loyola Golf Invitational in February. A ten-over-par mark of 874 captured Utah a second place tie, while juniors Brandon Kida and Stephen Croft both finished in the top ten.
Kida swung a stellar 68 in the third round, which earned him a new career-low round and a career-best finish of fifth place while Croft went even to tie for tenth. Junior Jose Pelayo finished with a 221 (74-72-75) to tie for 22nd, while junior Jonathon Thomas tied for 41st with a mark of 225 (74-74-77). Junior Brent Pollock rounded out Utah's lineup, tying for 63rd with a score of 230.
Three Utes competed as individuals at the tournament. Junior Max McGrail tied for 17th with a four-over par 220 (71-75-74). Senior Jack Maerki and Justin Mortensen finished lower in the lineup, tying for 70th and 63rd respectively.
