2013 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Round Information
AUSTIN, Texas- Utah Track and Field finished up a rain-plagued second day of competition at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Round this evening.
"This was just a mentally grueling day," head coach Kyle Kepler said. "12 hours at the track for these ladies today and you can't take anything away from their performances. Klaudia was in the mix, battled all day and it's a pretty good way to end your final meet."
Klaudia Rokossa matched her PR in the pole vault with a leap of 4.01 meters and finished 14th. The top 12 competitors advanced to the NCAA Championships. Meanwhile, junior Destanae Howerton-Davis also came up just short in the discus.
"It was a rough start for Destanae but she competed hard and threw much better at the end of the event," Kepler added. "She's only a junior so to get this experience was important. There was no lack of effort on her part today."
Rosalie Waller finished sixth in her heat of the 800 meter quarterfinals with a time of 2:08.54. She had advanced after running a preliminary time of 2:07.91.
"Rosalie had never made it this far before so she just took another step today in her development," Kepler stated. "I'm really impressed with the way she, and all of our student-athletes, have performed under mentally and physically exhausting conditions."
Tomorrow, Amanda Mergaert competes in the 1500 meter quarterfinals at 5:30 p.m CT. She will look to advance to the NCAA Championships for the third-straight season.
