KAHUKU, Hawai'i - The University of Utah golf team finished 14th at the John Burns Intercollegiate at the Palmer Golf Course at Turtle Bay Resort on Friday. The Utes shot a final-round 298, improving by 17 shots over their second-round effort, for a tournament total of 925 (312-315-298).
Sophomore Brandon Kida went eagle-bogey-par-birdie over his final four holes to shoot an even-par 72 and climb 27 spots in the individual standings, finishing in a tie for 20th. Kida was the low Ute in each round, posting scores of 75-77-72 to finish at 224.
Senior Joe Webber posted a final round 76, to finish in 54th with a 231 (77-78-76). Sophomore Gentry Hicks shot a 74 on Friday to bring his total to 233 (80-79-74), while junior Daniel Engle carded a 76 for a tournament total of 240 (80-84-76). Sophomore Jack Maerki rounded out the leaderboard for Utah with a 247 (80-81-86).
Utah golf returns to action March 4-5 at the Lexus Classic, hosted by Fresno State.
