OGDEN, Utah- In the first day of the Wildcat Invitational, senior Anneli Stahl broke the school record in the weight throw to get things started off quickly for the Utes. The day featured a dominating performance by the Utah throwers in both the shot put and weight throw.
"Overall I was pleased with our performance," Utah assistant coach Tapio Kuusela said following the meet. "Most of our throwers didn't take a day off, but prepared right up to this meet and had a good week of practice. Now it is time to get ready for the MPSF Championships. Our goal is to get season-best marks next weekend when it really counts."
Breaking her own school record, Stahl finished the weight throw with a mark of 62-1.50 feet en route to a first place performance and a permanent spot in Utah history. Finishing second was Cynthia Sanchez with a 57-0 feet followed by Aoife Hickey in third with a throw of 56-7.25 feet.
In the shot put, Destanae Howerton-Davis earned second with a toss of 45-9 feet. Candus Ford claimed the third spot with a mark of 44-10 feet followed by Sanchez in fifth with 42-10 feet. Freshman Sosina Salima set a personal-record throw of 41-10 finishing seventh for the Utes.
The running and jumping events will be held on Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. MT with the women's pole vault.
