SALT LAKE CITY- The University of Utah women's track and field team gets set for the final tune-up at the Weber State Twilight on Wednesday. Action will get underway at 4 p.m. with the women's long jump at Stewart Stadium in Ogden, Utah.
"The Weber Twilight is a final opportunity to work on any skills or techniques that require attention before we head to our first Pac-12 Conference Championships," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "We will only have a limited number of athletes from the sprinters, hurdles and jumping groups that will compete on Wednesday."
Sophomore Destanae Howerton-Davis is coming off a great weekend at the Robison Invitational where she won the discus and shot put events. Howerton-Davis set PR's in both events and was less than an inch from setting a school record in the shot put. This week, she looks to keep that momentum going as the group makes final preparations before the conference meet.
Also competing this week will be senior Brianna LeRoy at the first-ever Pac-12 Conference Championships. LeRoy is slated to compete on Saturday and Sunday in the multi events at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
"Brianna will use this week to sharpen and rest for the Pac-12 multi event," Kepler said. "She needs to focus on the things she does well and not worry about the other women in the event. If she can do that and focus on each event one at a time, she will perform at a high level."
