LOS ANGELES, Calif.- The 49th-ranked University of Utah women's tennis (0-2) dropped a 4-1 decision to 25th-ranked Oklahoma (4-1) Saturday, at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Los Angeles, Calif.
In doubles play, sophomore Sarah Pham and junior Paige Miles defeated Nicole Long and Whitney Wofford 8-6 at the No. 2 spot. The duo of senior Anastasia Putilina and sophomore Callie Craig fell to the 22nd-ranked team of Whitney Ritchie and Marie-Pier Huet 8-5 at the No. 1 position. Sophomore Lucia Kovarcikova and freshman Danielle Flores then dropped a 9-7 decision to Abbi Melrose and Mia Lancaster at the No. 3 position, to give Oklahoma the doubles point.
In singles play, 90th-ranked Putilina downed Whitney Ritchie 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot, to tie the score at 1-1.
Craig fell to Lancaster 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 3 position and freshman Natasha Smith dropped a 7-6, 6-3, decision to Melrose at the No. 4 spot, to put the Sooners up 3-1 over the Utes.
Pham then fell to Huet 6-4, 7-6, at the No. 2 position, to give Oklahoma the win at 4-1.
Flores and Kovarcikova were in their third sets, at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots respectively, when the match was halted.
Utah returns to action when it hosts Nevada, Feb. 10, in Salt Lake City.
