SALT LAKE CITY- The 52nd-ranked University of Utah women's tennis team (1-2) blanked Nevada (0-1) Friday, in its home opener at the Eccles Tennis Center. After going 3-0 in doubles the Utes swept all six of their singles matches for the 7-0 win. Freshman Danielle Flores earned the match clinching point by defeating Juliette Legendre 6-2, 7-6(4) at the No. 4 singles spot.

"I knew going into this match that it would be a battle," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "Nevada is a very under rated team and I knew they were going to fight us hard. This match will help us as we move forward. We are looking forward to Sunday's match against Denver, another good regional team."

In doubles play, the duo of Flores and freshman Natasha Smith downed Sophia Stevens and Gabriela Eufrasio, 8-2 at the No. 3 position.

The team of senior Anastasia Putilina and sophomore Callie Craig defeated Michelle Okhremchuk and Rymma Maslova 8-3 at the No. 1 spot, to capture the doubles point for Utah.

The sophomore duo of Sarah Pham and Lucia Kovarcikova then topped Legendre and Emma Veberne 8-5 at the No. 2 position, to round out the Utes doubles sweep.

In singles play, Craig put Utah up 2-0 by downing Stevens 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 3 spot.

Kovarcikova defeated Eufrasio 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 5 position, to extend the Utes' lead over the Wolf Pack to 3-0.

Flores then clinched the win for Utah at 4-0 from the No. 4 spot.

Smith topped Maslova 0-6, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 6 position, to make the score 5-0.

Putilina, ranked No. 90, bested Okhremchuk at the No. 1 spot 6-7(2), 6-0, 6-3, to put the Utes up 6-0.

Pham then defeated Verberne 6-1, 3-6, 6-2, at the No. 2 position to round out Utah's singles sweep and make the final score 7-0.

In an exhibition match, freshman Sammie Watson blanked Iva Lepcevska 6-0, 6-0.

The Utes return to action Sunday when they host Denver (5-1) at 11 a.m., at the Eccles Tennis Center.
