Utah won its fourth-straight season opening game (2008-11).
Nine players made their first career starts - John White (RB), Miles Mason (OL), Vyncent Jones (OL), Joe Kruger (DL), James Aiono (DL), Conroy Black (DB), Michael Walker (DB), Ryan Lacy (DB), Eric Rowe (DB).
Utah played four true freshmen - Eric Rowe, Nate Fakahafua, Harvey Langi and Charles Henderson.
Jordan Wynn raises his record to 12-4 as Utah's starting quarterback, throwing for 101 yards (15-for-23 with 2 TD and no interceptions).
John White broke the century mark in his first career game, leading Utah with 150 yards on 19 carries for an average of 7.9 yards per carry.
John White scored his first career touchdown in the first quarter on a five-yard reception from Jordan Wynn. He had his first rushing touchdown in the second quarter with a 10-yard rush.
A pair of tight ends led Utah in receiving, Dallin Rogers (five catches, 46 yards) and Kendrick Moeai (five catches, 23 yards).
Coleman Petersen made his first career appearance at kicker. He kicked field goals of 37 and 44 yards, as well as three extra points.
Brian Blechen had his first career two-interception game, with picks in the first and fourth quarters. It makes back-to-back season openers that Blechen has had an interception (Pittsburgh, 2010).
DeVonte Christopher scored Utah's first touchdown of the game on a seven-yard pass from Jordan Wynn. It was his seventh career touchdown catch.
Sean Sellwood had his second career rush on a fake punt play in the second quarter, gaining 18 yards on the play. He also had a fake punt for 17 yards against San Jose State in 2010.
The Utah defense held Montana State to 75 yards rushing.
Charles Henderson made his first appearance at punt returner in his first career game, leading Utah with 32 yards on three returns.
Griff McNabb (seven yards) and Dres Anderson (22 yards) had their first career rushes.
Matt Martinez' blocked punt in the first quarter was his second career blocked punt. He also blocked a punt against Utah State in 2009.
Chaz Walker led Utah with 10 tackles. Eric Rowe had nine tackles in his first career game. Ryan Lacy a career-high eight tackles (one sack, two pass breakups).
Attendance is 45,311, marking the seventh-straight game that Utah has recorded a sellout, dating back to Pittsburgh in 2010 (last season's opener).
