TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Utah men's golf team completed the Mountain West Conference Championships Saturday on the Catalina Course of OMNI Tucson National Resort. The Utes improved to seventh-place with a score of 874 (297-291-286) after posting their best mark of 286 during the final round, while senior Mike Branca and freshman Ben Bankhead earned top-20 finishes.
Branca jumped to tied for 13th after placing 30th in the second round, posting a one-over-par mark of 214 (76-72-66). Bankhead improved to tied for 15th after tying for 25th place following Friday's round. The freshman posted a three-round score of 215 (74-72-69), finishing just two over par.
Senior Derek Adams tied for 24th, swinging a 218 (73-69-76), while fellow senior Jeff Kitches posted a 227 (74-78-75) for a 38th-place finish. Rounding out the Ute roster was senior Chase Hite, placing 44th with a mark of 243 (81-80-82).
San Diego State captured its first MWC Championship with a score of 847 (278-281-288). Colorado State's Ryan Peterson, New Mexico's Travis Ross, and UNLV's Derek Ernst all tied for first with six-under-par marks of 207.
