Junior Brianna LeRoy of the University of Utah track & field team is currently in second place after four heptathlon events with 3,051 points accumulated during the first day of the Mountain West Conference Championships at Jack Christiansen Track.
"[LeRoy] is right where we thought she would be," Utah Associate Head Coach Burke Bockman said. "She had a very solid day, nothing outstanding or horrible. It was just a day where she came out and got the job done, especially in these weather conditions (39 degrees and rain)."
LeRoy earned 830 points with a first-place effort of 5-6 in the high jump then claimed second in the 100-meter hurdles (14.56 seconds with a 2.5 mile-per-hour wind) for 901 points. She took third in the 200-meter dash (26.10 seconds with a 2.4 mile-per-hour wind) for an additional 788 points. The shot put event found her in sixth place for 532 points following a 32-11.25 mark.
"It was solid start for [LeRoy] today," Bockman said. "But we're looking forward to tomorrow where she gets to compete in the events that she's really strong in." The heptathlon competition continues Thursday at 12:30 p.m. MT with the long jump, javelin and 800-meter run events.
