SALT LAKE CITY- The University of Utah women's tennis team (6-8, 0-0 MWC) upset 63rd-ranked Oregon (7-8, 1-4 Pac-10) Wednesday at the Eccles Tennis Center. After dropping the doubles point the Utes swept singles for the 6-1 win. Junior Anastasia Putilina, ranked No. 77, earned the match-clinching point with her 1-6, 6-4, 7-6(5) defeat of 79th-ranked Pavlina Smatova at the No. 1 singles position.

"This was another great win over another Pac-10 team," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "I'm proud of Anastasia for picking up another ranked win today. I am also proud of how Lucia [Kovarcikova] gutted out her third set."

In doubles play, the team of junior Anastasia Putilina and sophomore Paige Miles fell to Smatova and Patricia Skowronski 8-6, at the No. 1 spot.

The freshmen duo of Sarah Pham and Lucia Kovarcikova topped Pascale Neubert and Rabea Stuckemann at the No. 3 position, 8-6.

Senior Evgenia Kryuchkova and redshirt sophomore Lexi Provancha dropped an 8-6 decision to Trudie Du Toit and Julia Metzger at the No. 2 spot, giving Oregon the doubles point.

In singles play, Pham defeated Stuckemann 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 4 spot, evening up the score at 1-1.

Miles downed du Toit 6-0, 6-2, at the No. 5 position, putting the Utes up 2-1 over the Ducks.

Provancha topped 5-7, 6-2, 6-3, Neubert at the No. 6 spot, giving Utah a 3-1 lead.

Putilina then clinched the match at 4-1 from the No. 1 position.

Kryuchkova, ranked No. 105, added the Utes fifth point with her 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, defeat of Skowronski at the No. 2 spot.Kovarcikova bested Metzger 7-6,4-6, 7-6 at the No.3 position., making the final score 6-1 in favor of Utah.

The Utes open Mountain West Conference play April 1-2 against New Mexico and TCU, in Fort Worth, Texas.
