Top-Seeded Putilina Advances to Singles Semifinals at Regional Championships

LAS VEGAS, Nev.- Senior Anastasia Putilina of the University of Utah women's tennis team notched two singles wins on the third day of the USTA/ITA Mountain Region Championships, Friday, to advance to the semifinals in Las Vegas, Nev. The top-seeded, 64th-ranked Ute faces UNLV's third-seeded Aleksandra Josifoska in the semis Saturday (Oct. 15), at 1:30 p.m. PT.
Putilina defeated Colorado's Winde Janssens 6-1, 0-6, 6-0, in the round of 16 before topping ninth-seeded Nives Pavlovic of UNLV 1-6, 6-1, 6-3, in the quarterfinals, to advance.
Sophomore Sarah Pham, the No. 11-seed, upset fifth-seeded Michaela Bezdickova of New Mexico 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, in the round of 16 before dropping a 6-1, 6-1, decision to Denver's 13th-seeded Madeleine Saari Bystrom in the quarterfinals.
In doubles play, the top-seeded duo of Putilina and sophomore Callie Craig defeated Victoria Lozano and Sophi Vickers of Idaho 8-5 in the round of 16. The Utah tandem faces the 5-8-seeded team of Marlena Pietzuch and Sonia Klamczynska of Boise State in the quarterfinals Saturday at 9 a.m. PT.
