Putilina's Run Ends at Women's Mountain Region Championships

LAS VEGAS, Nev.- Top-seeded, 64th-ranked Anastasia Putilina of the University of Utah women's tennis team suffered an upset in the singles semifinals at the USTA/ITA Mountain Region Championships, Saturday. The Utah senior dropped a 6-3, 6-1, decision to third-seeded Aleksandra Josifoska of UNLV, in Las Vegas, Nev.
In doubles play, the top-seeded duo of Putilina and sophomore Callie Craig defeated 5-8-seeded Marlena Pietzuch and Sonia Klamczynska of Boise State 8-6 in the quarterfinals before suffering a 8-4 upset by Wyoming's third-seeded team of Veronica Popovici and Simona Synkova in the semifinals.
In other tournament singles play Saturday, freshman Danielle Flores topped Precious Gbadamosi of Montana 4-6, 6-2, 10-6, while fellow freshman Sammie Watson bested New Mexico's Maria Sablina 6-2, 7-5.Craig defeated Morgan Anderson of BYU 6-3, 6-7, 10-6, Saturday, after besting Wyoming's Sasa Nemcova 4-6, 7-5, 10-4, Friday.
