SALT LAKE CITY - After the University of Utah track & field team took sixth place at the 2010 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 12-15, Alyssa Abbott, Sarah Grimm, Langley Iverson, Chelsey Kaplar, and Utah's 4x400 relay team all garnered All-MWC honors.
Abbott won the 1,500-meter title by almost two seconds with a time of 4:29.98 to finish ahead of BYU's Katie Palmer-Cox. Abbott also added a seventh-place performance in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:54.58.
Grimm, a senior from Sandy, Utah, was the runner-up in the MWC's hammer throw event with a distance of 194-10 (59.40m) to earn eight team points for Utah. Grimm also took 16th in the discus with a distance of 127-9 (38.94m).
Freshman Langley Iverson came through for the Utes in the high jump, establishing a new personal best and finishing third with a 5-10.5 (1.76m) effort on her second-to-last jump of the competition.
Chelsey Kaplar finished as the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdle final with a lifetime-best time of 59.89 and the first time she had ever broken 60 seconds in her career.
Kaplar joined Lauryn McKay, Whitney Wellington and Ashley Mosley in the 4x400-meter relay to place third after crossing the finish line in 3:42.41.
Utah next heads to the 20100 NCAA West Regional Championships in Austin, Texas May 27-29.
