ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Sophomore Brianna LeRoy got the University of Utah track & field team off to an impressive start after the first day of the 2010 Mountain West Conference Championships Outdoor Track & Field Championships Wednesday at the University of New Mexico Track Complex. LeRoy sits in third place after the first four events of the heptathlon with a total of 3,005 points.
LeRoy started the day by turning in the third-fastest 100-meter hurdle time, 14.73 against a 2.5 meter-per-hour wind, to earn 878 points. She then tied for second in the high jump at a height of 5-5.75 to accumulate 818 points. A sixth-place finish in the shot put came along with LeRoy's 33-8.75 effort, earning 548 points. In the final event of the day, the 200-meter dash, she captured third place with a time of 26.42 against a 1.6 meter-per-hour wind.
New Mexico's Sandy Fortner turned in first-place efforts in all four events to take first place with a total of 3,456 points. Kristen Kugler, of Colorado State, is currently in second place (3017 pts.) but only 12 points ahead of LeRoy.
LeRoy's top performance this season was a score of 4,156 points at the Drake Relays on April 21.
