The 2010 NCAA Championships aren't over yet for four Ute gymnasts, who will compete for event titles tonight. Daria Bijak, Jamie Deetscreek, Annie DiLuzio and Kyndal Robarts will represent the Utes on the closing day of the NCAA Championships after qualifying into the event finals during Thursday's team preliminary competition. The event finals begin at 6 p.m. Eastern time (4 p.m. MT).
Bijak, a senior eight-time All-American, is in bar finals for the second time of her career. She placed eighth on bars as a freshman in 2007. At this championship, Bijak scored a 9.90 on bars on both nights of team competition and tied for second on the event in Thursday's semifinal. She will be the fourth competitor on the event tonight.
Robarts and Deetscreek tied for first on beam in Thursday's semi--both scoring a 9.90--and drew the fourth and fifth positions, respectively, in tonight's meet. It is the first beam final for both and Deetscreek's first appearance in event finals. Robarts was a vault finalist as a freshman in 2008.
Senior Annie DiLuzio, the 2007 NCAA vault runner-up, gets her first crack at an NCAA floor title tonight. DiLuzio has nine wins on floor this season and punched her ticket into the finals by tying for second in Thursday's semifinal with a 9.90 (she also scored a 9.90 in team finals last night). She, too, drew the No. 4 spot in the lineup tonight.
All four are already 2010 first-team All-Americans by virtue of placing in the top four on Thursday. In addition to her All-America performance on bars, Bijak is a 2010 first-team All-America all-arounder after tying for seventh across both sessions on Thursday (the all-around standings were determined on Thursday).
Other All-America honors for the Utes at this championship include second-team status for Deetscreek in the all-around and on bars, and for sophomore Stephanie McAllister on bars. Utes won eight All-America awards total at this championship.
Bijak finishes her Ute career as a six-time All-American, while senior Deetscreek closes with four All-America awards (three this meet). DiLuzio ends her career as a two-time All-American and this is also the second award for Robarts, a junior.
