STANFORD, Calif - The University of Utah men's tennis team (4-7) was defeated by No. 9-ranked Stanford, 4-0, Wednesday at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. The teams agreed to play singles first due to the threat of inclement weather. Once the rain started to fall the match moved indoors and the teams played one match at a time.
In the No. 4 position Timmy Allin was defeated by Richard Wire, 6-4, 4-0. The Cardinal continued their lead when Jason Smits fell to No. 18 Alex Clayton, 6-0, 6-4, from the No. 2 slot. Dmytro Mamedov was defeated by Denis Lin in the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-0. Stanford clinched the match at 4-0 after Alex Golding fell to Greg Hirshman in the No. 3 position, 6-2, 6-3.
With the match already decided the remaining matches between Phillip Eilers and No. 11 Bradley Klahn at the No. 1 position, and Stephen Jacobs and Matt Kandath at the No. 6 slot were abandoned and doubles was not played.
Up next the Utes will host Nebraska Sunday, March 14 at the Eccles Tennis Center beginning at 11:00 a.m.
