Utah snapped a 21-game home winning streak with the loss to TCU. The winning streak, which is the second-longest in school history, went from Sept. 15, 2007 in a win over 11th-ranked UCLA, to Oct. 23, 2009, a win over Colorado State.
TCU is 1-3 all-time in Salt Lake City. Utah leads the overall series, 5-3.
Utah's 40-point loss is tied for the fourth-largest home loss in school history. The last time a team scored 47 points at home on the Utes was New Mexico in 2003 (a 47-35 loss).
The loss is the first time this season that Utah has given up over 500 yards of total offense to an opponent. The last time Utah gave up over 500 yards to an opponent was against TCU last season.
Shaky Smithson's 10-yard punt return in the second quarter gives him 570 yards for the season, setting a new Mountain West Conference record. Smithson broke the old record of 563 set by TCU's Jeremy Kerley in 2009.
Shaky Smithson totaled 143 all-purpose yards for Utah (124 kick return, nine receiving and 10 on punt returns).
Tevita Finau made his first start of the season. J.J. Williams made his first appearance of the season after sitting out most of the year with a foot injury.
Matt Asiata scored in the fourth-quarter on a 19-yard touchdown reception. It is his first career receiving touchdown, and his seventh overall touchdown of the season.
Eddie Wide led Utah in rushing with nine carries for 32 yards. Matt Asiata had six carries for 27 yards.
DeVonte Christopher led Utah with six catches for 73 yards.
Chaz Walker set a new career-high with 18 tackles. His previous career best was 16 against UNLV earlier this season.
Christian Cox had a career-high 12 tackles.
Brian Blechen forced a fumble in addition to his nine tackles.
Attendance of 46,522 was the second-largest crowd in Utah history.
