SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's golf team will co-host the Purple and Red Invitational with the Weber State Wildcats. The tournament will be held on the 7,162-yard par-72 Valley View Golf Course in Layton, Utah. The field will play 36 continuous holes on Monday with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. The final round will be 18 holes on Tuesday with tee times off holes one and 10 beginning at 8:10 a.m. The tournament is free to the public.
The Field: The Utes will compete against 15 other teams, including: Air Force, Arkansas-Little Rock, Boise State, British Columbia, Cal Poly, UC Riverside, Loyola Marymount, Northern Colorado, Portland, Sacramento State, Southern Utah, Utah State, Utah Valley, Washington State, and Weber State.
Last Time: The Utes captured the Purple and Red Invitational title last fall with a three-over-par score of 867. Chase Hite tied for 14th with a finish of 217 and Derek Adams shot a three-over-par score of 219. Mike Branca finished at nine-over-par with a mark of 222, while Jeff Kitches and Joe Webber competed in the tournament as individuals. Kitches shot a score of 221 and Webber with a score of 225.
Week In Review: The Utes completed the Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, N.M., in 11th with a score of 909. Branca led the Utes with a top-20 finish, 12th-place, after posting a mark of 220.
The Utes are slated to compete in the Herb Wimberly Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M., on Oct. 25-26.
