LAYTON - The University of Utah men's golf team wrapped up its co-hosted tournament, the Purple and Red Invitational Tuesday at the Valley View Golf Course in Layton, Utah. The Utes posted a score of 885 (297-290-298) to tie conference rival Air Force for 10th. Senior Jeff Kitches led the Utes with a final score of 216 (72-74-70), to tie for 15th.
Derek Adams, who led the team after day one, finished with a score of 220 (73-70-77), to tie for 31st. Fellow senior Chase Hite tied for 34th, posting a final score of 221 (76-71-74). Other notable Ute finishers were Benjamin Bankhead (tied for 75th, 231), Mike Branca (tied for 79th, 232), and individual player Cody Hughes (tied for 53rd, 225).
The top team in the tournament was Sacramento State with a score of 857.
The Utes will return to action next week, Oct. 25-26 at the New Mexico Herb Wimberly Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M.
