SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The No. 46-ranked University of Utah men's tennis team (16-6, 4-0 MWC) remains undefeated in conference play after downing Air Force (7-15, 0-3 MWC), 7-0, in San Diego, Thursday.
"The guys did a great job today and took care of business," commented assistant coach Roeland Brateanu. "It is nice getting a win under our belt outdoors and in low altitude in preparation for tomorrow's match against New Mexico."
In doubles Phillip Eilers and Wes Hancock topped Austin Francis and Cody Hall, 8-3, from the No. 1 spot. Benito Suriano and Stephen Jacobs defeated James Tomlin and Alex Beaussart, 8-1, clinching the doubles point for the Utes.
Timmy Allin and John Taylor continued the doubles sweep for Utah topping Brett Rodgers and Taylor Soster, 8-6, in the No. 2 slot.
In singles Allin continued his winning streak in the No. 6 position defeating Beaussart, 6-2, 6-0. In the No. 2 spot Eilers topped Hall, 6-1, 6-1, setting up Suriano to clinch the match at, 3-0, downing Rodgers, 6-2, 6-0, from the No. 3 slot.
John Taylor topped Soster, 6-4, 6-2, from the No. 4 position. In the No. 5 spot Jason Smits defeated Johnny Buckingham, 6-0, 6-3. Wes Hancock closed the Utes, 7-0, sweep topping Francis, 7-5, 6-4, from the No. 1 position.
Utah will face No. 41-ranked New Mexico tomorrow in San Deigo, Calif. beginning at 10 a.m. PT.
