LAS VEGAS, Nev.- The 65th-ranked Utah women's tennis team (9-11, 3-4 MWC) fell to 50th-ranked UNLV (17-6, 7-0 MWC), 5-2, Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. Freshman Anastasia Putilina and Sophomore Evgenia Kryuchkova provided the Utes' two points with wins from the second and fourth singles positions.

"I feel like we're doing a good job of battling the best teams in the conference on their home courts," said head coach Mat Iandolo. " That bodes well for us, since the conference tournament is being held at a neutral site. We are prepared for our last big conference match against San Diego State tomorrow."

Putilina and Kryuchkova were topped at the No. 2 doubles spot by Alisa Razina and Anna Maskaljun, 8-1. Juniors Erin Monson and Andrea Maughan fell to Kristina Nedeltcheva and Katy Williams at the No. 1 doubles position, 8-6, allowing UNLV to claim the doubles point.

Senior Leigh Walsh and Freshman Lisa Johnson dropped a hard-fought, 9-7, match at the No. 3 doubles position to Nikol Dimitrova and Rumyana Terzieva.

In singles play, Walsh was topped by Williams at the No. 3 spot, 6-0, 6-1. Putilina at the No. 2 position downed Dimitrova, 6-3, 6-0, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Rebels.

Monson fell to Nedeltcheva at the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 7-5 and freshman Lexi Provancha at the No. 5 position dropped a 7-5, 6-2, decision to Maskaljun, giving UNLV the win at 4-1.

Senior Karine Bourdages fell at the No. 6 spot to Terzieva, 6-3, 6-4, and Kryuchkova defeated Adrienn Hidvegi at the No. 4 position, 0-6, 7-5, 10-4, making the final score 5-2.

The Utes take on San Diego State (15-7, 4-2 MWC) in their final conference match Saturday, April 18, in Las Vegas at 10 a.m. PT. The results of today's match between SDSU and BYU are unknown as of release time.
