LAS VEGAS, Nev.- The 65th-ranked Utah women's tennis team (9-12, 3-5 MWC) fell to 42nd-ranked San Diego State (17-7, 6-2 MWC), 5-2, Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. Sophomore Evgenia Kryuchkova and Freshman Lexi Provancha provided the Utes' points with wins from the third and fifth singles positions.

"It was another very competitive match against a very good conference opponent," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "We are looking forward to the conference tournament next week where we'll meet them again and hopefully reverse the results."

In double play Erin Monson and Andrea Maughan at the No. 1 spot fell to 58th-ranked Holly Bagshaw and Julia Trunk, 9-8. Kryuchkova and senior Leigh Walsh fell to Roxanna and Sierra Ellison at the No. 2 position, 8-6.

Freshmen Anastasia Putilina and Lisa Johnson at the No. 3 spot defeated Esther Cadua and Emma Cioffi. SDSU was up 1-0 after earning the doubles point.

In singles play, Monson fell to Trunk at the No. 1 spot 6-3, 6-3, and Putilina at the No. 2 position was topped by Bagshaw, 6-2, 6-3.

Kryuchkova downed Cioffi at the No. 3 spot, 6-4, 6-1 and Walsh at the No. 4 position fell to Cadua, 6-2, 6-0.

Provancha at the No. 5 spot defeated Olivia Colman, 6-3, 7-6, and senior Karine Bourdages fell to Milana Yusupov at the No. 6 position, 6-0, 6-4. The final score was 5-2 in favor of the Aztecs.

The Utes' next action will be at the Mountain West Conference tournament April 22-25, in Albuquerque, N.M.
