Utah Head Coach Elaine Elliott:
"We needed to use the high post and the two corners. As soon as we had those two positions we got shots from there. Its pretty simple, you have to be able to make plays with people defending passing lanes instead of people. It took us a while to get used to that, we just weren't doing a good job on adjusting on how you had to make your plays with the different feel defensively. The second half was much better, we pushed the ball. We got some things by pushing the ball in the second half that we weren't able to get in the first half."
"With that kind of defense they give you a lot of shots you get a lot of looks and open threes. With a good night of three's you can make them pay early for that, but we didn't have a good night for three's. We had to get it done some other way. The other thing you have to do is go to the boards, because that type of zone is tough to rebound out of, and we had to take advantage of that."
"I was not happy with our defense. I wasn't happy with it in the second half. There were a couple of actions that the kids just did not defend properly. And in the first half TCU just didn't miss their shots."
"They got too many early open looks and most of the things we were able to adjust to but we didn't do very well with some oddball picks from the wings. Sometimes you make mistakes and you don't have to pay for them. They made us pay for sure, at least 20 minutes."
Junior forward Kalee Whipple:
"I think a big thing that we needed to fix after the first half was taking care of the ball. We had ten turnovers and I think we ended the game with 14. We needed possessions, we were giving them more possessions and more opportunities to make plays and score points."
TCU Head Coach Jeff Mittie:
"They were just tougher than we were. This is not a team where you can sit there and go `they are going to jump better than you or have bigger effort plays,' we just got outplayed, bottom line we got outplayed and we got our butts kicked in the second half"
"We forced them to miss, they only shot 45% in the second half, which is pretty good except how many of those were off of second and third chances. Our defense is fine on first shots but we're just getting beat on the hustle plays."
