Kauai, Hawaii - The University of Utah men's golf team completed the first day of the Kauai Collegiate Invitational in seventh place with a score of 291, three-over-par, after the first round.
Freshman Camden Nicholson leads the Utes tied for sixth place after shooting a mark of 69, three-under-par.
Junior Mike Branca shot a 73 in the first round to put him in a tie for 22nd place, one-over-par.. One stroke behind Branca is Kaleb Mahanes with a score of 74.
Tied for 32nd place is junior Chase Hite shooting a score of 75, three-over-par. Rounding out the Utah lineup is Derek Adams tied for 49th place with a score of 80, eight-over-par.
The University of San Diego leads the field with a first round score of 276, 12-under-par. Two individuals are tied for first place, Thomas Kua of Hawaii, andBoris Stantchev of Loyola Marymount shooting 67, five-under-par.
The invite continues tomorrow with the second round and wraps up on Wednesday with the final 18 holes.
