DENVER, Colo. - The University of Utah golf team finished 13th in the team standings after the final round of the Ron Moore Golf Invitational Tuesday at the Green Valley Ranch Golf Club in Denver, Colo. The Utes finished with a final combined total of 897 strokes, adding 305 to their first-day two-round total of 592.
Leading the Utes with a final score that finished three strokes over par was sophomore Chase Hite (Tucson, Ariz.), who finished the tournament tied for 26th in the overall standings. Hite finished with a final score of 219 strokes, adding a final-round 77 to his 142 total from the first two rounds Monday.
Jeff Kitches (Salt Lake City), a sophomore from Brighton H.S., added a score of 77 to a 147 total accumulated in the first two rounds for a final score of 224. Kitches finished the tournament eight strokes over par and tied for 46th place in the individual standings. Senior Chance Cota (San Diego, Calif.) finished one stroke behind Kitchens, nine strokes over par, and compiled a score of 225 with a final-round score of 73.
Freshman Joe Webber (Sandy, Utah) tied for 71st place overall, finishing 15 strokes over par with a final score of 231. Sophomore Mike Branca (Salt Lake City, Utah) tied for 85th place, closing out the tournament with a final score of 236.
The University of Colorado won the tournament with a final team score 825. The Buffaloes' Pat Grady placed first in the individual standings with a final score 204.
The Utes travel to Albuquerque, N.M., Sept. 26-27 for the William H. Tucker Invitational.
