TUCSON, Ariz. -- The University of Utah lost its grip on fourth place Friday, losing six shots on the final two holes to drop to fifth place at 10-over-par at the Mountain West Conference Championships. Colorado State, which entered the second round tied with Utah, still occupies fourth at four-over. TCU and BYU are tied for the lead at four-under-par.
"We played marginal again today," said head golf coach Randall McCracken. "We've just got to make it happen tomorrow."
Chance Cota, Chris Gresh and Nic Larson, who led the team Thursday, fell off their first round pace Friday. Cota and Gresh turned in identical rounds of 73 to finish at two-over and tied for 14th place, while Larson carded a 74 to fall into a tie for 20th. Steve Broker's 71 was the low round for the Utes Friday, helping him maintain his tie for 22nd at four-over-par. Nick Carter recorded a 73 to move six-over. Eddie Olson of UNLV leads the individual standings at three-under-par.
Play concludes Saturday.
