THIS WEEK:
The 91st-ranked University of Utah golf team heads to Tucson, Ariz. for the Mountain West Conference Championships. The teams will compete in three 18-hole rounds from April 26-28 at the Omni Tuscon National course. The Utes are paired in group two with Brigham Young and Colorado State.

The Utah lineup for the Cowboy Classic will include Nic Larson, Nick Carter, Steve Broker, Chance Cota and Chris Gresh. In 2007, Dustin Pimm led Utah with a 21st-place finish and was named a first team all-conference selection on the tournament's final day. Chance Cota (30th place), Steve Broker (31), Chris Gresh and Nic Larson (both 33) gave the Utes five golfers in the top 35.

THE FIELD:
The field for the 2008 Mountain West Conference Championship includes Air Force, Brigham Young, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, TCU, UNLV, Utah and Wyoming. UNLV owns the tournament's top seed, while San Diego State and TCU round out the top three. Utah holds the fifth seed, one spot behind Colorado State and in front of Brigham Young, New Mexico, Air Force and Wyoming.

PIMM TURNS PRO:
Utah senior Dustin Pimm announced March 30 his plans to accept an invitation to play on the Canadian Professional Golf Tour. Pimm will lose his eligibility and miss the season's last three events, being replaced on Utah's roster by Nick Carter.

"[The tour] said, `Either take it or leave it,'" Pimm said. "After a lot of thought, and a lot of people supporting me, I decided to take it."

LAST WEEK:
On April 7-8 the Utes turned in a seventh-place finish at the Cougar Classic in Provo, Utah. The golfers battled blustery conditions Saturday to finish at seven-over-par in their final regular season tournament. Nick Carter continued his steady play, tying for 22nd at one-over-par. Chance Cota turned in an identical score to help lead the team. Senior Chris Gresh was one stroke off his teammates' pace, carding a 26th-place finish at two-over-par.
