Utes Fall to No. 67 San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - The University of Utah men's tennis team competed on Tuesday against No. 67 San Diego on the road. The Toreros defended their home courts to earn a 7-0 sweep over the Utes. Timmy Allin and Wes Hancock won the only match of the day.

Allin and Hancock started the day out for Utah in doubles play. The duo stepped in at the No. 3 spot for the Utes to face Charl Wolmarans and Tamer Antabi from the Torero squad. Allin and Hancock slammed an 8-2 win over the San Diego duo.

Zach Ganger and Miron Mann faced No. 44 Thomas Liversage and Chris Coetzee at the top spot. The Utes won three games before the Torero duo shut down the competition to take the win 8-3.

The doubles point was decided by San Diego's Dean Jackson and Nils Schive. Stephen Jacobs and Amit Maharaj put up a tough fight at the No. 2 spot, but their efforts were unsuccessful against the Torero duo in the end. Jackson and Schive took the match 8-4 to give San Diego a 1-0 lead.

The Utes had several close matches in singles play, but didn't get the final say in any of the six positions. Ganger took on No. 45 Thomas Liversage at the top spot for a three-set battle. The Torero took the first set 6-3, but Ganger wasn't going down without a fight. The Ute stepped up his game in the second set for a 6-4 victory. The third set was gruesome, but Liversage pulled away to take the win 6-3, 4-6, 10-6.

Jacobs played with everything he had in him on Tuesday against Jose Manuel Munoz at the No. 5 spot. The Ute fought hard to win the first set 7-6(6) over Munoz, but wore himself out too much to play a strong second set to win the match. The Torero took the second set 6-1 over Jacobs. Heading into the third set, Jacobs mustered up some energy to give Munoz a run for his money. The Ute kept pushing for the win, but came up a little short. The Torero took the win 6-7(6), 6-1, 10-8.
