AMES, Iowa - The University of Utah track and field team completed its first day at the Iowa State Classic on Friday. The Utes saw Ashley Patterson break the school record in the 200-meter dash. Patterson ran a time of 25.18, which not only broke the school record but placed second in her section.
"I'm very happy with how we competed today," comments Kyle Kepler. "We started off a little rough, but were able to get things turned around and finished with a great day."
In the 5000-meter run Lauren Endersen set a lifetime best by over 40 seconds. Endersen placed third overall with a time of 17:15.27, which is also the third fastest time in Utah history. Lauren Lewis placed fourth in her 5000-meter heat with a time of 17:52.83. Haley McAllister placed fifth in the heat and 16th overall in the long jump. She had a jump that measured 5.53 meters.
"We had several great performances including a school record and many personal best times," adds Kepler. "We are looking forward to another great day tomorrow."
