LAS CRUCES, N.M.- The University of Utah golf team completed the first two rounds of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate Monday in Las Cruces, N.M. The Utes ended the day in 13th place with a combined score of 594 strokes at 26-over-par.
Chance Cota (San Diego, Calif.) is on top for the Utes shooting a score of 143 (70, 73) and is currently tied for 13th place at one-over-par. Sophomore Derek Adams (Lake Havasu, Ariz.) ended the first two rounds tied for 32nd place with a combined score of 147 (75, 72).
Sophomore Jeff Kitches (Salt Lake City) is tied for 60th place after score of 80 in the first round followed by 72 in the second, for a two-round total of 152. One stroke behind Kitches is freshman Kaleb Mahanes (Erie, Colo.) with a first-day score of 153 (79, 74).
Finishing out the tournament line up for the Utes was sophomore Mike Branca (Salt Lake City) scoring a total of 154 (81, 73) at 12-over-par.
The day ended with a tie for first place in the individual standings between Jarred Bossio of Idaho and Pat Grady of Colorado each at four-under-par and a total score of 138. The team on top of the leaderboard is the University of Denver with a total score of 577 and Miami of Ohio is in second place with a score of 579.
The tournament continues Tuesday at 8 a.m. with the final 18 holes.
