SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's volleyball team downed in-state rival Weber State, 3-0, in a non-conference match on Thursday, Sept. 25.
Kathryn Haynie, Kate Robison and Whitney Webb each had 14 kills for the Utes. Robison had 14 digs on the night while Webb tallied four blocks. Haynie had a career-best four service aces. Stephanie Shardlow tallied her second-straight double-double with 28 assists and 11 digs.
As a team, the Utes hit a season-best .272 in the contest.
Although Utah struggled early in game one, going down 10-5, the Utes quickly fell into a rhythm and went on a 7-2 run to tie the game, 12-12. Utah outpaced the Wildcats from there to win game one 30-20. Robison tallied seven kills and five digs in the first game.
In game two, the Utes held a slim lead through most of the contest. Weber State came within a point, 19-18, before the Utes surged at the end to record a 30-21 victory. Haynie had five kills on eight attempts in the second game, while Robison tallied seven digs.
Game three saw Utah again take a late match lead to sweep the contest, 30-25. Up 25-23, the Utes outscored Weber State 5-2 the remainder of the way to take the win. Webb had six kills in the final game.
Other standouts for Utah included Connie Dangerfield, who recorded 20 digs. Keisha Fisher had 18 assists while Lori Baird tallied nine kills seven blocks. Chelsey Sandberg had a career-best seven kills.
For Weber State, Brittany Bisaillon led the Wildcats with eight kills and seven blocks. Kim Lissinna recorded two service aces while Caitlyn Anderson recorded 11 digs. Sierra Clark had 17 assists.
The Utes return to action on Friday, Sept. 28, to continue Mountain West Conference play at Air Force.
