SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah track and field standouts Amanda Feigt and Chelsea Shapard reeled in All-West Region honors on the heels of their solid efforts in the 400m hurdles.
"This is an outstanding honor that is well-deserved by both Amanda and Chelsea," said Utah head coach Kyle Kepler.
The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association bestowed the honor to Feigt and Shapard after their efforts at the West Region meet secured bids the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif., last week. Feigt won an automatic bid to the championships with a fifth-place (58.67) showing at the West Regional, while Shapard's seventh-place effort (1:00.17) was good enough for an at-large bid.
This is the second year in a row that Feigt has earned this honor. Shapard (who also carried a 3.714 GPA during the spring semester) is a first-time recipient of the all-region award.
The season isn't quite over for the Utes. Feigt will join Ute teammate Alyssa Abbott at the US Championships and the US Junior Championships on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis from June 20-24.
