Ute Gymnasts Seek 11th National Title Tonight

SALT LAKE CITY -
The Utah gymnastics team will try for a record 11th national title tonight, when it competes in the NCAA Super Six Championships, starting at 7 p.m. in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Joining Utah are two-time defending NCAA champion Georgia, Florida, Nebraska, Stanford and UCLA.
Utah drew the same rotation order it competed in Thursday's preliminary session - starting on a bye and then moving to floor, vault, bars and beam. The rotation served the Utes well the first time around, as they won the evening session with a 197.325 score, ahead of fellow qualifiers Stanford (197.200) and UCLA (196.475). Advancing from the afternoon session were Georgia (197.70), Florida (197.40) and Nebraska (196.625).
Tickets remain for the NCAA Super Six finals and can be purchased online, by phone (801-581-UTIX) and at the Huntsman Center box office.
Fans who cannot attend the meet can go online for live scoring. Live video streaming will not be available since CBS owns the rights to the broadcast rights championships. The meet will be televised on Saturday, May 12 at 4 p.m. Eastern Time.
Tonight's Super Six finals marks the conclusion of team competition. Individuals will compete for event championships on Saturday, starting at 7 p.m. in the Huntsman Center. Utes who will compete in the event finals on Saturday are Ashley Postell (bars, beam, floor), Annie DiLuzio (vault), Nicolle Ford (vault), Kristina Baskett (bars), Daria Bijak (bars) and Beth Rizzo (floor). All four were named first-team All-Americans and Postell received four first team citations (she placed second in the all-around). Postell also earned second-team All-America honors on the vault, as did Jessica Duke on the bars.
