FORT COLLINS, COLO. - The University of Utah women's tennis team advances to 2-1 in conference play after a 6-1 win over U.S. Air Force Academy on Saturday.

The Utes started the afternoon out on a high note after sweeping doubles play and earning the doubles point. Elizabeth Ferris and Leigh Walsh teamed up at the top spot to face Christine Abayan and Kelly Morgan for an 8-4 win. Karine Bourdages and Andrea Maughan defeated Lauren Wilson and Karissa Walker 8-7(3). Cinthia Saucedo and Jessica Carter faced Meghan Kiser and Erlyn Rudico at the No. 3 slot for an 8-3 victory.

The Utes dominated the courts on Saturday in singles play as well. Emily Kwok finished up first at the No. 2 slot against Lauren Wilson from the Falcons. The Ute junior took the match 6-2, 6-1. At the No. 3 slot, Walsh defeated Meghan Kiser 6-3, 6-0. Ferris stepped in at the top spot for the Utes to face Christine Abayan for a straight 6-2, 6-2 victory to advance the Ute squad to a 4-0 advantage.

Bourdages finished up next at the No. 6 slot. The Ute faced Erika Shortridge from the Falcons for a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Cheyenne Reveche faced Karissa Walker at the No. 5 slot for a 7-5, 6-2 win.

The Utes were going for an overall sweep of the match, but Kelly Morgan from the Falcon squad was putting up a fight. The Falcon took the first set 7-5 over freshman Andrea Maughan. The Ute answered back with a powereful 6-3 win, but couldn't hold out in the tie breaker. Morgan took the win 7-5, 3-6, 1-0(7) to put the Falcons on the board.
