Albuquerque N.M.- The University of Utah Utes had another great day at the championships as they broke five school records. Freshman Whitney Wellington broke the school record in the 60m dash again today with a time of 7.72; unfortunately it was not fast enough to qualify for the finals tomorrow, Senior Amanda Feigt broke her previous long jump record with a jump of 20ft 1in which was her first ever jump over 20 feet, and Sophomore Chelsea Shapard was able to break two school records today in the 200m dash (25.23) and the 400m dash (54.83).
"It's as good as we could have hoped," says coach Kyle Kepler. "We came out today and took care of business. We had athletes step up today who were able to overcome their rankings and put points on the board."
Other Utes who had a great day today were Becky Riddle who placed third in the women's weight throw (59 ft.), Lauren Enderson clinched the final spot in the 5k with a time of (18:30.69), and Alyssa Abbot had her best run ever in the 800m run with a time of 2:14.76.
Kepler ends with, "Were going to have to fight and claw for every point tomorrow. I'm proud of the group today, they came together nicely and we're looking to finish strong and carry the momentum over to the outdoor season."
The Utes are currently in fourth place with 25 ½ points behind San Diego St. (34 pts.), Colorado St. (59 pts.), and BYU (68 ½ pts.). The meet will commence Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with the high jump finals.
