This Week:
The University of Utah golf team continues its fall campaign Oct. 8-9 at the Wolf Pack Classic in Reno, Nev. The tournament will be hosted by the University of Nevada at Wolf Run Golf Club. Last season the Utes enjoyed one of their best tournaments of the season, finishing second at 15-under-par. Dustin Pimm was the individual medalist, finishing at 11-under par. Nic Larson finished tied for ninth at four-under-par, and Steve Broker finished at two-under-par, tying for 14th.
The Field:
The field includes this week includes Air Force, Arizona, Arkansas-Little Rock, Boise State, Colorado State, Denver, Hawaii, Iowa State, Kansas State, Long Beach State, Louisiana-Monroe, Nevada, New Mexico State, Northern Colorado, San Diego, UTEP, Weber State & Wyoming. Iowa State won the team title last season, posting a seven-stroke victory over the Utes.
Last Week:
The Utes were home for the Purple and Red Invitational. The tournament, originally scheduled for 54 holes, was cut to 36 due to inclement weather. The wet and cold conditions didn't seem to bother the Utes, as they finished Monday in first place at five-under-par, three strokes ahead of the University of Santa Clara. Dustin Pimm's strong second round Tuesday helped the Utes remain in contention. The junior fired a season-best 67 to finish in fifth place at four-under-par. Chris Gresh tied for sixth at three-under-par and Steve Broker finished tied for 15th at one-under-par.
Ute Notes:
Utah's last second-place finish was at the 2006 Wolf Pack Classic last October ... Last season the Utes posted back to back second-place finishes in the Purple and Red Invitational and the Wolf Pack Classic ... Dustin Pimm's 67 in the second round of the Purple and Red Invitational is the low score recorded by a Ute golfer this season ... The Wolf Pack Classic will be Utah's second-to-last fall tournament. The fall season wraps up Oct. 22-23 at the Sycuan Cup in San Diego.
