EL CAJON, Calif. - High winds, heat and haze made the going tough in the final day of the Sycuan Invitational. The nearby wildfires, and the winds that have made them so difficult to fight, resulted in unusually high scores Monday and Tuesday.
"It's been an interesting week with the wildfires and 40 mph winds," said Coach Randall McCracken. "We're looking forward to getting home and getting ready for the spring season."
Dustin Pimm led the Utes with a team-low 73 on Tuesday to close the tournament. Pimm, who finished at 10-over-par, tied for 22nd place. Nic Larson posted a 74 Tuesday to tied for 33rd at 12-over. Ryan Spears of Wichita State claimed the individual title and was the only golfer to finish the tournament below par at one-under.
The team maintained its 9th-place standing from Monday, finishing the tournament at 47-over-par. Wichita State rallied to win the team title, finishing at 20-over-par.
The tournament was the final fall event for Utah Golf.
