TUCSON, Ariz. - Utah sophomore Dustin Pimm shot a four-under 68 in the second round of the NCAA Division I Men's Golf West Regional. Pimm leads the 141-man with a 10-under 134 through two rounds. The sophomore will tee off the final round tomorrow at 8:23 PDT on the back nine of the Omni Tucson National Golf Course.
Pimm carded four birdies on the back nine and one on the front nine. The sophomore made par on 12 holes, while carding one bogey overall.
"It feels really good to be here, but I wish my team could have come with me as well," said Pimm. "It's really fun to be here and it's fun to be playing the way I am. I struggled on the front nine and wasn't hitting the fairway well enough. But on the back nine, I hit both the fairways and the greens and made some good putts."
The Arizona Wildcats carded a 15-under-par 273 Friday and moved first place while the top-seeded Florida Gators slipped into a tie for second place with North Carolina State. The two teams sit three strokes in back of host Arizona with a 555 (-21) tally.
The West Regional concludes tomorrow at Tucson National, a par 72, 7,200-yard layout. Tee times begin at 6:30 a.m. PDT. The top 10 teams and two individuals will qualify for the 2006 NCAA Championships, May 31-June 3, at the Crosswater Club at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore.
